Gandhinagar/Ahmedabad, February 4 – Renowned encounter specialist and senior IPS officer Abhay Chudasama has announced his resignation from Gujarat Police. Chudasama, who was currently serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), was set to retire in October this year, but his sudden decision to step down has sparked speculation.
Chudasama, a native of Bhavnagar, Gujarat, officially submitted his resignation letter to the State Police Chief on January 3 at 10 AM. However, the Gujarat government has yet to accept his resignation.

A Respected Figure in Gujarat Police
Known as the “Super Cop” of Gujarat Police, Abhay Chudasama has played a crucial role in several high-profile criminal investigations. He was instrumental in solving the Ahmedabad serial blasts case, among other key assignments. Over the years, he has built a reputation for being a tough and efficient officer, with a strong command over law enforcement strategies.
For some time now, Chudasama had been working in a sideline posting, and his resignation has put an end to months of speculation about his next move. However, the reasons behind his decision remain unclear.
If his resignation is accepted, he will become the second IPS officer from Gujarat to voluntarily step down in recent times, following the resignation of Junagadh SP Harshad Mehta last month, which was approved by the government.
A Controversial Statement That Made Headlines
Apart from his policing career, Abhay Chudasama recently made headlines with his statement at a public event. During a foundation stone-laying ceremony at the educational complex of the Karadia Rajput community in Wadhwan, Surendranagar, he spoke about the political representation of the Karadia community.
In his speech, Chudasama stated:
“I have served in this department for nearly 34 years. Until now, there was never a time when our community did not have a single minister in the government. However, for the past two terms, this has been the case. If you analyze the reasons deeply, you will understand why.”
He further added:
“Considering our population, we should have at least four MLAs, but we only manage to elect two. This number never increases. Why? Because we are divided based on party and region.”
This statement created quite a stir, raising questions about his future political ambitions. Some speculate that his resignation could be linked to a potential political entry, while others believe it might be due to internal administrative reasons.
What’s Next for Abhay Chudasama?
While Chudasama has not publicly disclosed his next steps, his resignation has fueled speculation about whether he plans to enter politics or pursue other career opportunities. Given his strong following and reputation, many believe he could play a significant role in Gujarat’s political landscape if he chooses that path.
For now, all eyes are on the state government’s decision—whether they accept his resignation or attempt to retain the veteran IPS officer.
