Design and color options for Google’s upcoming Pixel 8a have been revealed, offering a detailed look at the mid-range smartphone ahead of its expected launch in May.
Tipster Evan Blass has shared detailed renders of the Pixel 8a from various angles that confirm the device’s curved frame and edges, a departure from the sharp edges of the flagship Pixel 8 and 8 Pro models.
The image confirms that the Pixel 8a will be available in four colors: a shade of green called “Mint”, a blue option called “Bay”, “Standard Black” (Obsidian) and “White/Beige” (Chinese).

The Pixel 8a could be similar to its more expensive sibling
In addition to the rounded aesthetic reminiscent of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a, the leaked renders highlight several other different design elements of the Pixel 8a compared to its more expensive sibling. This includes slightly thicker fringes, especially on the lower part of the chin.
The camera strip on the back is still prominent, but the individual lenses protrude less than on the Pixel 8 series. The setup includes a 64-megapixel primary camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, flanked by an LED flash.
The notch in front of the selfie camera screen looks like a relatively small hole. Previous leaks suggested a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate.
Tensor G3 could come to Pixel 8a
The Pixel 8a isn’t expected to make any major hardware compromises while offering Google’s latest Pixel design language at a more affordable price.
The leaked information suggests that the phone will be powered by the same Tensor G3 chip that powers the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. A 4500mAh battery with 27W charging is also expected.
As for the software, the Pixel 8a is expected to ship with Android 14 and the latest Google AI and camera features.
Pixel 8a price and release date
Pricing details aren’t available yet, but leaks suggest the Pixel 8a could start at $705 for the base 128GB model, a significant increase over last year’s Pixel 7a.
The Pixel 8a is expected to be announced next month, possibly around Google’s annual I/O developer conference in mid-May. It follows the Pixel 7a launch schedule from 2022.
