Four Minors Drown in Rainwater-Filled Kunwari Mines in Udaipur

Udaipur, 24 August (Kiran News): Four children tragically drowned on Sunday in rainwater that had collected in the Kunwari Mines, located in the Manderia village of Gupri Gram Panchayat under Dabok police station area in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The victims included three boys and one girl. All four had gone to graze goats and later entered the water to bathe. They drowned after venturing into deeper water. A large crowd of villagers gathered at the scene after the incident.

Bodies Recovered with Villagers’ Help

Dabok Station House Officer (SHO) Hukam Singh stated that the deceased were Laxmi (14), daughter of Vardi Chand Gameti; Bhavesh (13), son of Pappu Lal Gameti; Rahul (10), son of Gopilal Gameti; and Shankar (11), son of Ramesh Gameti, all residents of Makeria Gameti Basti. Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the spot and, with the help of villagers, recovered the bodies of all four children. A large number of villagers and family members gathered at the scene and sat with the bodies, holding the mine owner responsible. However, the police were able to persuade the crowd and sent the bodies to the mortuary.

Villagers Hold Mine Owner Responsible, Demand Higher Compensation

The Kunwari Mines, where the incident took place, is situated on the Udaipur-Chittorgarh road in Manderia village. Stone mining work is carried out here, and rainwater had accumulated in the mine pit due to recent rainfall. The children had entered the water to bathe when the tragedy occurred.

Following the incident, police and local administration held discussions with mine representatives and villagers regarding compensation. The mine management offered a compensation of ₹4 lakh to each victim’s family, but villagers and relatives were not satisfied. They demanded a government job for one family member of each victim and a compensation of over ₹10 lakh per family. Family members remained at the scene with the bodies, insisting on their demands.
