England Advances to Super-8, Captain Brook Unhappy with Performance

Kolkata, February 16: Despite securing a spot in the Super-8 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, England’s captain Harry Brook expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance following their 24-run victory against Italy. Brook acknowledged that the team has not yet reached its best form.

During the post-match presentation, Brook stated, “We haven’t played our best cricket, but in the end, we have moved on. We are going to the next round, so we can be happy about that.”

England set a score of 202/7 after batting first, with Will Jacks contributing a crucial unbeaten half-century. However, Brook admitted that the batting unit lacked the consistency they desired during the group stage.

He remarked, “Yes, it has been a bit of a trend in the competition so far. We haven’t scored as much as we would have liked as a batting unit, but that is part of T20 cricket.”

Emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the format, Brook highlighted the need for consistent intent, saying, “One day you can score a century, and the next day you can be out on the first ball. We just need to keep our spirits up and make use of our options.”

He praised England’s death bowling, particularly Sam Curran, whose timely breakthroughs helped secure the victory.

Brook added, “We fielded very well. We bowled well too, and I think Sammy and Jamie performed well in the final overs. Sam played brilliantly. He has been outstanding throughout the tournament, and we somehow managed to pull through, but there have been some good performances, especially from him and Will Jacks in tough situations. It’s really good.”
