New Delhi, October 26 (Udaipur Kiran): After a gap of five years, direct flight services between India and China are set to resume from Sunday. IndiGo has announced the launch of flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou starting October 26, followed by Delhi–Guangzhou services from November 10. Meanwhile, China Eastern Airlines will restart its Shanghai–Delhi flights from November 9.

Direct air connectivity between the two countries was suspended in 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic and remained on hold due to prolonged border tensions in eastern Ladakh. The restoration of flight services had been under consideration for several years, delayed by diplomatic and operational constraints.
Following a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tinjian on August 31, discussions regarding the resumption of direct flights were revived. On October 2, India officially confirmed that flights between the two nations would restart from October 26.
IndiGo stated that its Kolkata–Guangzhou route would begin operations from October 26, and the Delhi–Guangzhou route from November 10. Likewise, China Eastern Airlines has announced the restart of its Shanghai–Delhi flight from November 9.
Responding to the development, Beijing expressed its willingness to view and handle China–India relations from a “strategic and long-term perspective,” emphasizing its commitment to promoting the stable growth of bilateral ties, benefiting the people of both countries, and contributing to peace and prosperity across Asia and the world.
