New Delhi, May 4: The initial trends of the assembly election results from four states and one union territory will be revealed in just a few hours. It will soon become clear who will hold power in these regions.
Voting for all assembly seats in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal was completed in April. In Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, voting took place in a single phase on April 9. Tamil Nadu also held its elections in one phase on April 23.
In West Bengal, voting for all assembly seats occurred in two phases on April 23 and April 29. Results for 293 out of 294 seats in the West Bengal assembly will be announced on Monday, as the Election Commission has decided to conduct re-polling for the Falta seat on May 21, with results expected on May 24.
To form a government in the 294-seat West Bengal assembly, a majority of 148 seats is required. Similarly, the majority figure for the 126-seat Assam assembly is 64, for the 140-seat Kerala assembly is 71, for the 234-seat Tamil Nadu assembly is 118, and for the 30-seat Puducherry assembly, it is 16.
Record voter turnout was reported in these elections, with Assam recording 85.38%, Kerala at 78%, Tamil Nadu at 85.1%, Puducherry at 89.08%, and West Bengal at 92.47%.
Robust security arrangements have been made at counting centers ahead of the vote counting. All counting centers in West Bengal have been converted into high-security zones, with a large deployment of central forces to maintain peace and order.
