Srinagar, May 3: The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, led a significant anti-drug march in Srinagar on Sunday. He reiterated the government’s commitment to a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drug trafficking and drug-related terrorism, emphasizing that there will be no leniency in this matter.
Sinha stated that the campaign will continue until not a single individual involved in drug trafficking or selling remains in the Union Territory. He initiated a major campaign against substance abuse and narco-terrorism in Srinagar, reaffirming the administration’s resolve to eradicate this menace from Jammu and Kashmir. The objective of the campaign is to prevent the spread of drugs, dismantle drug networks, and address the growing threat of drug-related terrorism in the region.
According to officials, the campaign will involve collaboration between the police and other agencies. Awareness will be raised among the public, and strict monitoring will be implemented to identify and take action against drug dealers and their networks.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility. He urged the youth, community members, and leaders to actively participate in this initiative. He reiterated that the administration will adopt a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards individuals involved in drug trafficking and related activities. This campaign is part of a larger plan by the Jammu and Kashmir administration aimed at creating a drug-free society and securing the future of the youth.
In his address, he noted that those who work diligently towards their goals are the ones who succeed in life. He appealed to the youth to become responsible citizens, as they will lead various sectors of the country in the future.
The Lieutenant Governor had previously announced that strict penalties would be imposed on drug traffickers, which include the cancellation of their Aadhaar cards, driving licenses, and passports, as well as the confiscation of assets acquired through drug money. These actions will be in addition to the penalties already prescribed by law.
