Chennai, October 28 (Udaipur Kiran) — Cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ has disrupted weather conditions across several districts of Tamil Nadu, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue warnings of thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rain in multiple regions.
According to the latest advisory, districts including Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Kanyakumari, Ranipet, Tenkasi, Tiruvallur, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Villupuram, and Virudhunagar are likely to experience strong winds and rain within the next three hours.
Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and venture out only if necessary. People have been advised to avoid open areas, trees, or waterlogged streets due to the increased risk of lightning strikes. Heavy rain may cause traffic disruptions and flooding in low-lying areas, while farmers have been asked to take precautionary measures to protect their crops.
Train Services Diverted for Safety
In view of the cyclone, railway authorities have implemented precautionary measures. Train number 18189 Tatanagar–Ernakulam Express, which departed from Tatanagar at 5 a.m. today, has been diverted from its regular route. The train will now operate via Titlagarh, Lakholi, Raipur, Durg, Gondia, Nagbhir, Ballarshah, Bellampalli, Ramagundam, Warangal, Khammam, and Vijayawada.
Officials said the diversion was made because the original route is expected to be severely affected by the cyclone. While the change may cause delays, passenger safety remains the top priority. Travellers have been advised to check updated schedules at railway stations or through official helplines. Some other train services have also been adjusted as a precautionary measure.

The Meteorological Department continues to monitor the cyclone closely and may extend alerts to more districts if the system intensifies. Local administrations have placed emergency and relief teams on standby to respond swiftly if required.
Authorities have appealed to the public not to believe or spread rumours and to rely only on verified government updates. People are advised to stay away from electrical appliances during heavy rain and to call 1077 or 112 in case of emergencies.
