Mirzapur, 3 September (Kiran News): A dramatic incident unfolded on Tuesday at the Shastri Bridge in the Katra Kotwali area of Mirzapur district, where a couple jumped hand-in-hand into the Ganga river. Both were swept away by the strong current and remain missing.
Passersby immediately informed the police, after which Katra Kotwal Vaidyanath Singh and Shastri Bridge outpost in-charge reached the spot. Divers and an SDRF team were called in, and a search operation continued until late evening, but there was no trace of the couple.
The police found a PAN card in the man’s bag, helping to identify him. According to available information, the 22-year-old man was a resident of the Dehat Kotwali area and worked at a private company in Gujarat. He had recently returned home and was supposed to leave for Gujarat two days earlier but instead went to Shastri Bridge with his partner on Tuesday, where the couple took this extreme step.
Katra Kotwal Vaidyanath Singh stated that the two were reportedly related. The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the area.
