Madhya Pradesh Receives Full Quota of Rainfall, Heavy Rain Alert Issued in 26 Districts Including Indore and Ujjain
Bhopal, 3 September (Kiran News): Madhya Pradesh has reached its average quota of rainfall for this monsoon season, with the state already recording 38.2 inches of rain—exceeding the normal average. However, several districts have received significantly less rainfall compared to others. Due to the monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation, the spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the state on Wednesday.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for 18 districts, including Indore and Ujjain, and a very heavy rain alert for 8 districts. This means that nearly half of the state is likely to receive substantial rainfall over the next 24 hours.
According to the Meteorological Department, two troughs are passing through Madhya Pradesh, including the monsoon trough. This caused rainfall in many districts on Tuesday and is expected to remain active on Wednesday as well. The 8 districts under an orange alert for very heavy rain are Dewas, Sehore, Harda, Khandwa, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, and Pandhurna. These areas could receive up to 8.5 inches of rain in the next 24 hours. The 18 districts under a yellow alert for heavy rain include Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Vidisha, Raisen, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat, where rainfall could range from 2.5 to 4.5 inches.
On Tuesday, more than 25 districts experienced rain, with heavy showers reported in Bhopal, Seoni, and Shivpuri. Light to moderate rainfall was observed in several other districts. In Akodia of Shajapur district, heavy rain submerged a culvert on the Kharsoda road, disrupting transport and stranding a school bus. Low-lying areas saw waterlogging.
In Itarsi, Narmadapuram district, intermittent heavy and light rain continued, prompting authorities to open three gates of the Tawa Dam by two feet each due to rising water levels. This is the second time this season that the dam’s gates have been opened. Maugonj and Pipariya also received rainfall.
According to the Meteorological Department, Madhya Pradesh has received 38.2 inches of rain so far this season, which is 104 percent of the season’s average. The state’s normal seasonal average is 37 inches, while last year, 44 inches of rainfall was recorded.
