Congress to Allocate 60% Tickets to Youth in Rajasthan Elections

Jaipur, August 19: Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, has advocated for a significant shift in the selection of candidates for the upcoming municipal and Panchayati Raj elections. He stated that the Congress party should allocate more than half of its tickets to Generation Z and young candidates.

Speaking to the media after a meeting at the Congress war room, Gehlot emphasized that the political landscape has changed, and youth participation is on the rise. “I have suggested that over 50% of tickets should be given to Generation Z. While the experience of senior leaders is valuable, it is equally important to bring the new generation forward. Their significance cannot be overlooked,” he remarked.

Gehlot strongly opposed the distribution of tickets based on recommendations from senior leaders, insisting that observers should have the freedom to evaluate candidates at the grassroots level. “Do not award tickets based on recommendations. History shows that whenever tickets have been given on this basis, we have faced defeat. Tickets should go to genuine and dedicated party workers,” he stated.

He further mentioned that even his own recommendations should not be a basis for ticket allocation. “People from Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Bikaner come to me with recommendations. If I were to recommend someone, they should not be granted a ticket. Senior leaders are often not fully aware of the ground realities in a region,” he added.

In a bold move, Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra went a step further, announcing that the party would allocate 60% of its tickets to youth. “We will give 60% of tickets to the youth. This directive will be communicated down to the grassroots level,” he confirmed.

Dotasra also mentioned that the past political behavior of candidates would be considered during ticket distribution. Candidates who have supported Congress after winning as independents may be considered, but those who win on a Congress ticket and later align with other parties will not be prioritized.
