Mumbai: A major accident was averted at Mumbai airport on Sunday morning when two planes came dangerously close to colliding on the same runway. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a probe into the incident and removed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) staff from duty.

This morning, IndiGo’s flight from Indore was given landing clearance by ATC on the runway. Simultaneously, an Air India flight was preparing for takeoff from the same runway. The pilot of the IndiGo aircraft exercised extreme caution during landing, preventing any mishap. The landing and takeoff of these two aircraft took place just moments apart. Passengers made a video of the incident and shared it virally on social media.
On the other hand, the DGCA has taken immediate action on the incident, removing the ATC team from work and ordering an investigation into the matter. Mumbai airport sources said that action will be taken against these employees if found guilty.
