The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant reform for the 2026 Class 12 board examinations. After the declaration of results, students will no longer be able to apply for marks verification.
Why Has the Verification Facility Been Removed?
From 2026 onwards, CBSE will evaluate Class 12 answer sheets using a fully digital On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Officials believe that this technology will eliminate errors in totaling marks, making post-result verification unnecessary.
The announcement was made during a workshop conducted for principals and teachers of affiliated schools. According to Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, the digital evaluation process will ensure accuracy and transparency in marking.
What is On-Screen Marking?
On-Screen Marking (OSM) is a digital evaluation system where:

Answer sheets are first scanned.

The scanned copies are uploaded to a secure online portal.

Examiners check responses directly on a computer screen.

The software automatically calculates total marks.
Since the system auto-calculates totals, the chances of addition errors are eliminated. Earlier, manual totaling mistakes sometimes led students to apply for marks verification or re-evaluation.
Class 10 Evaluation Will Remain Manual
This change will apply only to Class 12 exams in 2026.
Class 10 answer sheets will continue to be evaluated manually by teachers, as per the existing system.

Under the new model, teachers will not need to travel to designated evaluation centers. They can assess answer sheets digitally from their own schools, saving both time and travel costs.
Examination Schedule
CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations will begin on February 17, 2026.
