New Delhi, February 14 (Udaipur Kiran): India’s automotive export sector has begun 2026 on a strong note, registering strong year-on-year (YoY) growth across most vehicle categories amid sustained international demand for India-made vehicles.
According to data released on Friday by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Indian automobile industry exported 76,822 vehicles to key global markets in January 2026, compared to 57,585 units shipped during the same period in 2025.
This translates into a 33.4% increase in total vehicle exports from India in January.
Passenger Vehicles Lead the Momentum
The Passenger Vehicle (PV) segment recorded the highest growth. A total of 37,329 passenger vehicles were exported in January 2026, up from 25,990 units in January 2025 — marking a sharp 43.6% rise.
Utility Vehicles (UVs) also posted strong numbers. India shipped 38,421 UVs in January this year, compared to 30,457 units in January 2025, reflecting a 26.1% growth.
However, van exports declined by 5.8% during the same period. India exported 1,072 vans in January 2026 against 1,138 units in January 2025.
Toyota Hyryder Tops December Exports
In December 2025, Toyota Hyryder emerged as the top exported model with 5,164 units shipped, compared to 4,642 units in December 2024.
Exports of Maruti Jimny stood at 4,592 units in December 2025, slightly lower than 4,699 units in December 2024. Maruti e Vitara recorded exports of 2,724 units in December 2025.
Meanwhile, Maruti Fronx saw exports of 2,390 units in December 2025, compared to 8,373 units in December 2024. Mahindra XUV 3XO exports rose to 999 units in December 2025, up from 834 units in December 2024.
Mahindra Gets 35,000-Unit Export Order
In the commercial vehicle segment, Mahindra’s Scorpio pickup continues to see strong demand in both domestic and overseas markets. Under a new Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) order from a government-owned company in Indonesia, Mahindra will export 35,000 units of Scorpio single-cab pickup trucks in 2026.
This is the largest export order received by Mahindra so far and highlights India’s growing manufacturing capability. Pickup trucks account for a significant share of vehicle sales in Indonesia, where multiple truck options are available.
