Mumbai, September 21 (Udaipur Kiran) : Mithu Mukherjee, a prominent Bengali actress, has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Sources from Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai confirmed the news of her demise on September 21, 2026.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) paid tribute to Mukherjee on social media platform X, stating, “AICWA pays homage to actress Mithu Mukherjee. She was a renowned figure in both Bengali and Hindi cinema.” Mukherjee began her film career with “Shesh Parb” and became a well-known and respected face of Indian cinema during the 1970s and 1980s. She is remembered for her memorable performances in celebrated Bengali films such as “Marjina Abdullah,” “Nishi Kanya,” “Mauchak,” “Swayamsiddha,” “Hotel Snow Fox,” “Bhagyachakra,” “Sandhi,” “Father,” and “Ashrita.” She also appeared in Hindi films like “Khan Dost,” “Safed Jhoot,” “Dillagi,” and “Do Ladke Dono Kadke.”
AICWA expressed that Mukherjee’s passing has left the entire Bengali film industry in shock and mourning. “She was not just a famous actress but a vital part of the film world and a beloved member of the entire film fraternity.
