New Delhi: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is gearing up to launch its much-anticipated 4G and 5G high-speed services by mid-2025. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a key player in the rollout, has reaffirmed that the project is on track, providing a boost to millions of users awaiting enhanced connectivity.

Rollout Timeline Confirmed
TCS Chief Operating Officer N. Ganapathy Subramaniam has assured that BSNL’s 4G services will be operational across one lakh base stations by May 2025, with 5G services following in June 2025. Earlier, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had revealed these timelines, which remain unchanged despite concerns of potential delays.
Indigenous Network for Digital India
Aimed at bolstering India’s self-reliance in telecommunications, BSNL’s 4G and 5G networks will be entirely indigenous. TCS, in collaboration with Tejas Networks, is spearheading the development of advanced technology and infrastructure for this massive project. Both companies have expressed confidence in meeting deadlines, leveraging their technical expertise and extensive experience.
This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of a robust, self-sufficient telecom sector, enhancing connectivity across urban and rural India.
TCS Dismisses Delay Rumors
TCS, which was awarded the contract for BSNL’s 4G-5G deployment in July 2023, has categorically denied any delays. Subramaniam emphasized that the work is progressing as scheduled and assured users of a timely launch. He also hinted at an upcoming major announcement from BSNL, likely to generate further excitement.
Impact on the Telecom Sector
The successful rollout of BSNL’s high-speed network is expected to intensify competition in India’s telecom market, offering consumers more options and affordable plans. With private telecom giants already established, BSNL’s 4G-5G services could disrupt the market by catering to underserved regions and ensuring wider connectivity.
