New Delhi, February 25: Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt has made history by reaching the Round of 16 in the Champions League for the first time. The team triumphed over Inter Milan with an aggregate score of 5-2, marking a remarkable victory against the three-time European champions.
The visiting team faced significant pressure from Inter during the initial hour of play, but former AC Milan attacker Jens Peter Hauge scored a crucial goal that eased their path. Bodo/Glimt established a strong lead with Hauge’s close finish and a stunning goal from Håkan Evjen.
Inter attempted a comeback late in the match, with Manuel Akanji scoring from Federico Dimarco’s cutback and Alessandro Bastoni also finding the net, but it was not enough to secure victory.
Coach Kjetil Knutsen’s team achieved this historic milestone through an outstanding performance.
In another match, Newcastle United defeated Qarabağ FK 3-2 to advance to the Round of 16. After taking a commanding 6-1 lead in the first leg, Newcastle secured the matchup with a total score of 9-3, making it one of the highest-scoring encounters in Champions League history.
In the early minutes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton scored to strengthen their lead, while Sven Botman contributed in the second half. Qarabağ’s Elvin Jafarquliyev also scored, but goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale saved a penalty, providing relief for the team.
After the match, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe stated, “No draw is easy at this level. We performed exceptionally well, especially in the away match, and the team handled the pressure brilliantly.”
In the Round of 16, Newcastle could face Chelsea or Barcelona.
