Jodhpur, September 9 (Udaipur Kiran) — Asaram, serving a life sentence for sexually exploiting a minor girl at his ashram, has returned to Jodhpur Central Jail after completing his parole. This was the first time in 11 years that Asaram spent 14 days outside jail. He returned to Jodhpur on Monday after treatment.
Asaram was flown from Mumbai to Jodhpur under strict security. Upon landing, he was transferred from the plane to a special vehicle and then to an ambulance. His followers, who came to see him, were left disappointed again.
He was initially granted parole for five days, which was later extended. During his flight back to Jodhpur, many of Asaram’s followers were present on the plane, trying to receive blessings from him. The Jodhpur police had to intervene to manage the crowd.
The Rajasthan High Court had granted Asaram a seven-day parole on August 13, which counted from the time he reached the hospital. Asaram has funded his medical treatments during this parole period.
Notably, Asaram has been in jail since his arrest by Jodhpur police from Indore in September 2013, followed by about a five-year-long trial. After the verdict in 2018, his court appearances ceased, and he was only taken out for medical treatments. This was the first time in 11 years that Asaram stayed outside Jodhpur for 14 days. Several parole petitions have been submitted on Asaram’s behalf in the High Court, but this was the first time he was granted parole for medical reasons based on a medical report from AIIMS Jodhpur. Asaram has always insisted that he will only undergo Ayurvedic treatments.
