Udaipur – In a significant move against corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a Patwari in Udaipur while accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000.
The accused, Bharat Kumar Meena, a Patwari at the Dhundhiya Halka Patwar Mandal in Mavli Tehsil, was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe for clearing a mutation in the revenue records.
According to ACB Director General Dr. Ravi Prakash Meharada, the complainant had approached the ACB, alleging that the Patwari was harassing him by demanding a bribe of Rs. 10,000 to complete the mutation process. Following the complaint, a team led by Additional SP Rajiv Joshi was formed to trap the accused.
During the operation, the Patwari was caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant. It was also revealed that the accused had already extorted Rs. 4,000 from the complainant during the verification process.
The ACB is now interrogating the accused under the direction of Additional Director General Smita Srivastava. A thorough investigation is also underway to probe the accused’s assets. A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
