Jodhpur, 11 August (HS) – The Rajasthan High Court on Monday extended the interim bail of self-styled godman Asaram, serving life imprisonment in separate rape cases involving minors in Gujarat and Rajasthan, till 29 August on health grounds. The decision came after hearing his appeal filed on 8 August. Earlier, the Gujarat High Court had also extended his interim bail till the same date for similar reasons.

Asaram’s counsel, Nishant Boda, presented recent medical reports citing his critical health condition. The court, after examining these documents, decided to extend the interim relief. In its earlier order, the Gujarat High Court had noted that Asaram’s blood tests showed abnormally high troponin levels, indicating serious cardiac issues. His treating doctors have described his condition as critical.
A division bench of Justices Dinesh Mehta and Vineet Kumar Mathur of the Rajasthan High Court has issued special directions for a detailed medical examination. The court ordered the formation of an expert panel at a government hospital in Ahmedabad, including two cardiologists, to thoroughly assess Asaram’s ailments, particularly his heart-related problems. The panel has been asked to pay special attention to the elevated troponin levels, which could pose a severe risk to his heart, and submit a detailed report to the court at the earliest.
Asaram was convicted in 2018 by a special court in Jodhpur for raping a minor and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was also convicted in another rape case in Gujarat. His appeals against these convictions are pending in various courts. However, citing deteriorating health, his legal team has repeatedly sought interim bail, which has been granted periodically by the courts.
