Udaipur, 11 August 2025 – Udaipur Police have arrested a man accused of raping an 8-year-old girl in Naya Kheda village within 12 hours of the incident, displaying swift action in a sensitive case.
Police said the information about the crime was received at around 9:15 PM on Sunday. Vallabhnagar Circle Officer and Dabok SHO reached the spot, spoke to the victim and her mother, and immediately took the girl to MBGH Hospital, Udaipur, for treatment. Doctors have confirmed she is now stable. A medical examination, conducted in the presence of her mother, confirmed the sexual assault.
Based on the complaint, an FIR (No. 189/25) was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act, 2012. SP Yogesh Goyal formed special police teams under the supervision of Additional SP Kherwara Anjana Sukhwal and Vallabhnagar CO Rajendra Jain.
Working overnight, the teams detained the accused, identified as Ram Lal, son of Duda Ji Gameti, resident of Mandesar, Dabok. Police said the accused confessed to the crime during questioning.
However, tensions flared when around 500–600 villagers gathered near the victim’s village, demanding compensation and a government job for her family. Officials were addressing the crowd and informing them about legal provisions when some miscreants spread a false rumour that the girl had died in hospital.
This triggered stone-pelting at the police station, causing damage to seven government vehicles and injuring police personnel. Police dispersed the mob and detained 39 people, seizing 13 motorcycles. A separate FIR has been registered for the violence and damage to public property.
The arrest operation and law-and-order response involved coordinated efforts from Dabok, Bhinder, Mavli, Fatehnagar, and Jhadol police stations, with more than 30 personnel on duty.
