Islamabad, 21 November (Udaipur Kiran)। A mild earthquake struck Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday morning, with tremors felt in the Lower Dir region. The quake measured 4.7 on the Richter scale.

According to reports, residents rushed out of their homes in panic when the ground shook. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage from any part of Lower Dir.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad stated that the epicentre of the earthquake was located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush range at a depth of 93 kilometres.
An earthquake’s centre is the point beneath the Earth’s surface where seismic energy is released due to the shifting of tectonic plates, causing stronger vibrations at that location. Earthquakes measuring 7.0 or above on the Richter scale can produce strong tremors up to a 40-kilometre radius, depending on the direction and intensity of seismic waves.
