New Delhi, April 28: According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department, residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) can expect relief from the intense heat and heatwave conditions over the next four days. This change in weather is anticipated to bring a drop in temperatures, along with rain, thunderstorms, and lightning events. There is also a possibility of partial improvement in the air quality index (AQI).
As per the weather department’s data, the maximum temperature recorded on April 28 was 42 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorm conditions with rain are expected throughout the day, although no specific warnings have been issued.
On April 29, a slight decrease in temperature is forecasted, with a maximum of 40 degrees and a minimum of 26 degrees. Strong winds and thunderstorms are likely to occur in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The temperature may drop further on April 30, reaching a maximum of 38 degrees and a minimum of 24 degrees, with partial cloud cover and occasional thunder expected.
May 1 is predicted to have mostly clear weather, but temperatures will remain around 40 degrees/24 degrees. Regarding air quality, many areas in Delhi and NCR still fall within the moderate to poor category.
In Anand Vihar, the AQI was recorded at 227, while Bawana and the Cantonment area reported 205 and 206, respectively. Areas like Ashok Vihar (193), Aya Nagar (199), and Chandni Chowk (162) maintained moderate AQI levels. In Greater Noida, Knowledge Park-3 recorded an AQI of 228, and Knowledge Park-5 reached 253, which falls into the poor category.
The situation is more concerning in Ghaziabad, where areas such as Indirapuram (214), Loni (278), Sanjay Nagar (228), Vasundhara (225), and Ved Vihar-Loni (352) reported AQI levels ranging from poor to very poor. Meteorological experts suggest that rain and strong winds may help reduce the levels of dust and pollutants in the atmosphere, providing some relief to the residents. However, caution is advised during strong winds and thunderstorms.
