Udaipur, December 4 (Udaipur Kiran): In a proud moment for Hindustan Zinc’s flagship social initiative, Zinc Football Academy, 16-year-old goalkeeper Rajrup Sarkar played a key role in helping the India Under-17 National Team qualify for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026. India sealed their qualification with a notable 2-1 victory over strong contenders IR Iran in Ahmedabad, concluding a resilient qualifying campaign.

Rajrup featured in all of India’s crucial group matches and delivered consistent performances with his calm presence, sharp reflexes and effective shot-stopping skills. His contributions in high-pressure matches against IR Iran, Lebanon, Palestine and Chinese Taipei proved vital in securing India’s place in Asia’s premier youth football tournament.
A product of the Zawar-based Zinc Football Academy, Rajrup joined the residential programme at a young age and progressed rapidly under its structured coaching, education support and technology-driven training model. His strong performances in the 2024–25 AIFF Under-17 Youth League earned him a call-up to the national team camp, culminating in his selection for the national side and successful qualification campaign.
The AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026 will provide Rajrup and the Indian team with a major international platform. His journey reflects the long-term vision of the Zinc Football Academy to develop grassroots talent and prepare future national-level players.
Since its establishment in 2018, the Zinc Football Academy has consistently produced players for India’s age-group teams. Following the national team appearances of Sahil Poonia, Mohammed Kaif and Prem Hansdak, Rajrup’s achievement marks another milestone for the academy.
