YouTube tests Google Lens button with object detection and OCR-based search on Android: report

According to reports, YouTube will offer improved functionality by integrating the new Google Lens button. The top search bar panel in the YouTube app for Android now has a new option to perform a search using Google’s visual search tool. It allows users to capture images of objects and search for them on video streaming platforms. This feature is currently available to users, but not all users will immediately see this feature on their smartphones.

Google Lens on YouTube

According to a report from 9to5Google, the YouTube app for Android has been updated with a new Google Lens button, giving the popular streaming platform support for the company’s visual search tool. When searching for a video, this button appears next to the microphone button, allowing users to enter search terms instead of typing them.

Google Lens can identify objects in the viewfinder by comparing them to similar images online. It is said to be able to translate more than 100 languages in real time. Google also says it can provide step-by-step instructions for completing homework. Additionally, it has an optical character recognition (OCR) feature that allows you to identify text in images.

According to this publication, Google Lens will allow users to take pictures of objects and search them on YouTube. In addition to the search bar, a lens icon also appears to appear at the top of the YouTube for Android search results page.

A Gadgets 360 representative could not confirm whether this feature is available on YouTube for Android. The report suggests that the Google Lens integration will be rolled out gradually and not all users may be able to integrate it into their phones right away.

Support for YouTube test dream pages

According to a company blog post, YouTube recently began testing a Dream Screen feature for Shorts that adds custom, AI-generated green screen images to videos. To use it, authors simply send a text message explaining what they want to do in the background.

We suspect this feature is intended for creators who want to use creative backgrounds to stand out in their videos without using resources. According to Google, this is an experimental feature that only select shorts manufacturers have access to.
