Srinagar, May 24 – In a much-needed respite for residents of Jammu and Kashmir, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant shift in weather conditions starting today. The region, reeling under extreme heat and dry spells in recent weeks, is likely to experience cloudy skies, rain showers, and gusty winds in the coming days.

According to Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, intermittent rain and thundershowers are expected across several parts of Kashmir and select areas in the Jammu division on Saturday. Some locations may also witness intense rainfall and strong winds, offering welcome relief from the scorching temperatures.

May 24: Predominantly cloudy weather with sporadic rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of Kashmir and Jammu. Isolated locations may experience heavy downpours and gusty winds.

May 27–31: A more widespread rainy spell is anticipated across the Union Territory, with light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorm activity likely in many areas. Some regions may again see heavy showers and strong winds.
Temperature Dip and Advisory
The IMD advisory noted a 2–3°C drop in maximum temperatures starting today, which should bring measurable comfort across the region. The Met Centre also warned of possible thunderstorms and strong gusty winds in the coming days and urged people to stay alert, especially in vulnerable areas.
Farmers and outdoor workers are advised to plan their activities accordingly, while residents are encouraged to monitor official weather updates for timely alerts.
