Jammu, October 5 (Udaipur Kiran): In view of the adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall warnings issued by the Meteorological Department, the Vaishno Devi Yatra has been suspended from October 5 to 7 as a precautionary measure. The pilgrimage is expected to resume on October 8 once conditions improve.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised citizens to remain vigilant and avoid flood-prone or waterlogged areas. The department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, with October 6 expected to witness the heaviest showers.
In light of the alert, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the closure of all government and private schools in the Jammu division on October 6 and 7 to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Director of School Education, Dr. Naseem Javad Chaudhary, confirmed that the order applies to all schools across the division.
The weather forecast predicts cloudy skies and light to moderate rain across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir from October 5 to 7, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Higher-altitude regions may experience light to moderate snowfall.
The IMD has also issued advisories for farmers, urging them to postpone harvesting and other agricultural activities during this period. Conditions are expected to improve from October 9 onwards, with dry weather likely to prevail until October 14.
