Glasgow, July 31: Indian athletes are making a remarkable impact at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. Friday was particularly special for India, with the judo team securing two gold medals and one silver, while five boxers advanced to the finals, guaranteeing at least five silver medals.
Present at the event was Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, who is actively promoting the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad while boosting the morale of the athletes.
Athletes who won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 visited the Ahmedabad Pavilion, where they expressed admiration for the showcased Gujarati culture.
Mirabai Chanu, who won her third consecutive gold medal in weightlifting, shared her joy, saying, “We are very happy to be here. It feels great to experience Gujarat’s culture. I want to thank everyone for this opportunity.” She added, “We take pride in hosting the next Commonwealth Games in India and will strive to perform well and elevate our country’s name. We have done well in judo and boxing, and we need to replicate this success in other sports as well.”
Gold medalist Dilip Gavit expressed his excitement about being at the event, stating, “It feels great to be here. The Deputy Chief Minister hugged me, and it made me very happy.” Gavit won the gold medal in the men’s 100 meters T47 athletics event, clocking a historic time of 10.71 seconds.
Also present was Sharmila Dhankhar, who won gold in the women’s shot put F57 event with a season-best throw of 9.81 meters, becoming India’s first Commonwealth Games para-athletics gold medalist. Her victory ended a 20-year wait for a para-athletics medal for India at the Games.
