New Delhi, August 1: Banks across India will observe a total of 14 holidays during August 2026 due to regional festivals, national holidays, Sundays, and the second and fourth Saturdays. However, since August 1 is the first Saturday of the month, banks are functioning normally today.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks remain closed only on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Therefore, branches of State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, and other banks are open for regular business on August 1.
Bank Holidays in August 2026
August 4: Banks will remain closed in Agartala on account of Ker Puja.
August 8: Banks will be closed in Gangtok due to a local holiday.
August 13: Banks will remain closed in Imphal for Patriots’ Day.
August 15: Banks across the country will remain closed for Independence Day. The holiday also coincides with Parsi New Year.
August 19: Banks in Agartala will remain closed to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
August 25: Banks in Kochi, Vijayawada, and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed for Onam, Milad-un-Nabi, and Milad-e-Sharif.
August 26: Banks will remain closed in Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram on account of Barawafat.
August 28: Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Gangtok, Jaipur, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Shimla, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram for Raksha Bandhan and other local festivals.
Weekly Bank Holidays
Apart from festival-related holidays, banks will remain closed on the following weekly holidays:
- Sundays: August 2, 9, 16, and 23
- Second Saturday: August 7
- Fourth Saturday: August 21
