Jaipur, May 6, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): A delegation led by UNICEF India Country Head Cynthia McCaffrey met Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma at the Police Headquarters in Jaipur on Wednesday to discuss strengthening and expanding the “child-friendly policing” programme in Rajasthan.

During the meeting held at the conference hall of the Police Headquarters, McCaffrey expressed satisfaction over the ongoing initiatives between UNICEF and the Rajasthan Police and emphasised the need to further reinforce them. She appreciated initiatives such as Kalika Patrolling Unit, Suraksha Sakhi and Vatsal Varta, stating that these efforts are emerging as effective models for ensuring the safety of women and children.
Both sides agreed to enhance coordination between the organisations. Detailed discussions were held on key issues including child protection, education, health and nutrition. The meeting also reviewed the impact of current programmes and deliberated on future strategies, with a focus on system strengthening and scaling up initiatives to reach a wider population.
Emphasising the importance of community policing, DGP Sharma highlighted the need for regular awareness programmes in schools on online and cyber safety. He said that creating awareness among children about crime prevention is essential and can be achieved through active collaboration between the police and society.
Officials from UNICEF and the police also shared suggestions to improve awareness and empowerment of women and children. A detailed action plan is expected to be prepared and presented by UNICEF representatives in the coming days.
The meeting was attended by UNICEF Rajasthan State Head K.L. Narasimha Rao, child protection expert Dr Sanjay Kumar Nirala, Additional Director General of Police (Community Policing) Lata Manoj Kumar, along with other police officials.
