Udaipur : A major train accident was averted near Dungarpur in Rajasthan on Sunday night when a loco pilot spotted iron rods placed on the railway tracks. The train, which was traveling from Asarwa (Ahmedabad) to Jaipur, was able to stop just in time before hitting the rods. The incident took place near Kotana railway station, about 4 km from Dungarpur railway station.
According to GRP police, the loco pilot saw the rods on the tracks and immediately applied the emergency brakes. The train came to a halt just before hitting the rods. The loco pilot then got down from the train but found no one around.
The loco pilot informed the Dungarpur railway station master and GRP police about the incident. Upon receiving the information, GRP police and railway officials rushed to the spot. They found six iron rods of about 12 mm diameter placed on the tracks. The rods were seized by the GRP. The train was then allowed to proceed towards Udaipur and Jaipur.
The police suspect that the miscreants had placed the rods on the railway track in an attempt to derail the train. The accident was averted due to the alertness of the loco pilot. The police are investigating the incident and searching for the miscreants.
