Nainital, May 6: The Supreme Court has revoked the bail granted to the accused in the violence case from Banbhoolpura, Uttarakhand, which occurred in February 2024. The Nainital High Court had previously granted bail to the accused, Javed Siddiqui and Arshad Ayub. Following this, the Uttarakhand government challenged the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. After hearing the case, the Supreme Court dismissed the bail applications of the accused.
The Supreme Court has ordered the accused to surrender within two weeks. It is noteworthy that during the anti-encroachment drive on railway land in Banbhoolpura in February 2024, incidents of arson, violence, and significant damage to public property, including a police station, were reported. The police had registered an FIR against the main accused, Javed Siddiqui, and others in this case.
According to the police, petrol bombs and weapons were used during the incident. Last month, the Uttarakhand High Court had granted default bail to the accused. The Supreme Court stated that the time extension requested by the investigating agency for the inquiry was not improper. The Supreme Court also mentioned that the accused could file regular bail applications in the lower court.
