Shimla, October 5 (Udaipur Kiran News): The weather in Himachal Pradesh has taken a sharp turn as rain, strong winds, and the season’s first snowfall hit several parts of the state on Sunday. While high-altitude regions such as Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Kullu are witnessing intermittent snowfall, Shimla and other lower areas have been lashed by rain and gusty winds, marking a significant drop in temperatures.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning has been reported from Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Mandi, Chamba, Solan, Kangra, and Sirmaur districts. The sudden change is attributed to an active Western Disturbance, coming nearly ten days after the monsoon’s withdrawal from the state.
🔹 Snowfall and Temperature Drop
Snow has been reported at Baralacha, Shinkula, Kunzum, and Rohtang Pass, leading to a sharp dip in mercury. People in tribal and upper regions have begun wearing woollens as the chill intensifies.
🔹 IMD Issues Three-Day Alert
According to the Meteorological Centre Shimla, the state will continue to witness bad weather over the next three days.
October 5: Heavy rain, hailstorms, and winds of 40–50 km/h are likely across the state. Yellow alert has been issued for all 12 districts.
October 6: Weather expected to worsen. Orange alert for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Lahaul-Spiti; Yellow alert for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Solan, and Kinnaur.
October 7: Yellow alert for ten districts except Bilaspur and Hamirpur; light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning expected.
October 8: Rain likely in many parts but no alert issued.
October 9: Weather expected to improve with clear skies.
🔹 Advisory for Residents
The IMD has advised people to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in high-altitude and landslide-prone areas. Minimum temperatures are likely to fall further, intensifying cold conditions in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Pangi-Bharmour regions.
Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and remain in safe places during adverse weather conditions.
