57 Trains Cancelled Due to Durgapur Interlocking Work, Passengers Face Festive Season Disruptions

Kolkata, October 4 (Udaipur Kiran News): Rail passengers are set to face major inconvenience during the festive season as the Durgapur interlocking work begins on the Barddhaman–Asansol railway section. The Eastern Railway has announced the cancellation, route diversion, and rescheduling of several key trains to facilitate the modernization work.

Trains Cancelled

According to railway officials, the interlocking project will start on October 6 and continue until November 23, 2025. During this period, 57 trains — mostly express services — will remain cancelled. In addition, several trains will operate on diverted routes, and the timings of some major services will be revised.

🔹 Trains Affected

  • Cancelled: 57 trains including major express services

  • Diverted Routes: Howrah–Mokama Express, Deoghar–Howrah Mayurakshi Express

  • Rescheduled: Howrah–Ranchi Shatabdi, Ranchi–Howrah Shatabdi, New Delhi–Howrah Purva Express

🔹 Passenger Reactions

Passengers have expressed strong displeasure, stating that cancelling trains during the festive season — when thousands travel home — is highly inconvenient. Many commuters fear long delays and overcrowding on alternative routes.

🔹 Railway’s Clarification

Railway authorities have defended the decision, saying the interlocking work is essential for upgrading old signaling systems and improving track safety. Officials stated,

“This short-term inconvenience will lead to long-term benefits, ensuring safer and smoother journeys for all passengers.”

Travelers are advised to check train schedules in advance through www.enquiry.indianrail.gov.in or the NTES mobile app before planning their trips.
