VD Satheesan Takes Oath as Kerala CM Along With Full Cabinet

Thiruvananthapuram, May 18 (Udaipur Kiran) — Congress leader V. D. Satheesan took oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala on Sunday during a ceremony held at Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Along with the Chief Minister, 20 other ministers of the new cabinet also took oath. Satheesan said this is the first time in nearly 60 years that the entire Kerala cabinet has taken oath together.

The new government includes 21 ministers from six alliance parties, with Congress holding 12 ministerial positions. Satheesan is a six-time MLA from the Paravur constituency.

Senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attended the ceremony along with chief ministers from Congress-ruled states. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was also present. However, Shashi Tharoor could not attend as he is currently abroad.

After taking oath, Satheesan greeted Rahul Gandhi, Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, former Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Karnataka Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar.

The new cabinet includes 14 first-time ministers. Among them are CP John, N Shamsuddeen, KM Shaji, PK Basheer, VE Abdul Gafoor, PC Vishnunath, Rosy M John, Bindu Krishna, T Siddique, KA Thulasi and OJ Janish.

Congress has also retained the Speaker and Deputy Speaker posts. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will serve as Assembly Speaker, while Shanimol Usman has been named Deputy Speaker.

The election for the Assembly Speaker is scheduled for May 22, while the Governor’s policy address will take place on May 29. The state budget is expected to be presented before June 5.
