New Delhi, May 19 (Udaipur Kiran) — Pre-monsoon activity is set to intensify across the country over the next 72 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heavy rain alert for several states.

Since the arrival of pre-monsoon conditions, many parts of the country have already witnessed spells of intense rainfall. With the monsoon expected to arrive soon, weather activity is likely to increase further in the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Kerala is likely to witness heavy rainfall over the next three days. Strong winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, thunderstorms, lightning, and dust storms have also been forecast in several areas. The monsoon is expected to reach Kerala by May 26.
Tamil Nadu is also expected to receive heavy rainfall during the next 72 hours under the impact of intensified pre-monsoon activity. The weather department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, dust storms, and strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.
The IMD has also issued heavy rain alerts for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Mahe, Yanam, Karaikal, Rayalaseema, Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
During this period, wind speeds in different regions may range between 30 kmph and 70 kmph. Thunderstorms, lightning activity, dust storms, and isolated hailstorms are also likely in some areas.
Weather experts believe the strong pre-monsoon activity may bring temporary relief from rising temperatures in several parts of the country.
