Manheim Township, Pennsylvania – A Close Call Near Lancaster Airport
A Beechcraft Bonanza carrying five people crashed in Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon, just moments after departing Lancaster Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The small aircraft went down near a retirement village in Manheim Township, causing a 100-foot skid upon impact, local authorities confirmed. Fortunately, no one on the ground was injured.
Emergency responders swiftly transported all five passengers to Lancaster General Hospital, where trauma teams were prepared to administer care. Three critically injured individuals were later transferred to Lehigh Valley Health Network’s burn center, two via PennSTAR medical helicopter and one by ground ambulance. As of Sunday night, two passengers remain hospitalized at Lancaster General.
Distress Call Before the Crash
According to Air Traffic Control (ATC) audio recordings, the pilot reported an open door shortly after takeoff and requested an emergency return to the airport.

Eyewitness images shared with ABC News captured thick smoke and flames rising from the wreckage in Lititz, Manheim Township.
