New Delhi, May 5: In today’s fast-paced and irregular lifestyle, the negative impact on both the body and mind is significant. Stress, irritability, anger over trivial matters, mood swings, insomnia, restlessness, loneliness, and despair have become common issues. Experts suggest that making small changes in daily routines can improve mental health.
According to specialists from the National Health Mission (NHM), incorporating these habits into daily life can gradually lead to positive changes. It is possible to carve out 30-40 minutes for oneself even in a busy schedule. Mental health is not a major problem but rather a result of small positive habits. By maintaining work-life balance, focusing on self-care, spending time with family, and engaging in regular exercise or yoga, individuals can not only strengthen their mental health but also enhance their overall quality of life.
The NHM states that adopting small positive changes in daily life can easily improve mental balance, self-confidence, and emotional strength. Psychologist Dr. Garima Singh has provided important suggestions for maintaining mental health.
Dr. Garima explains that in today’s hectic life, people often become one-dimensional. During adolescence, children focus entirely on studies, neglecting sports, games, or time with friends due to career concerns. Similarly, adults become so engrossed in their professional responsibilities that they overlook family and personal life. The solution to this problem lies in achieving a work-life balance. Adolescents should allocate time for studies as well as sports, hobbies, and social activities.
For adults, balancing job or business responsibilities with family, health, and personal time is essential. For instance, if one works from 9 AM to 5 PM, it is important to leave work concerns behind and spend quality time with family after returning home.
Another crucial method for improving mental health is self-care. Individuals should set aside some time daily for themselves, which may include engaging in favorite hobbies such as reading, listening to music, painting, or gardening. Spending time with family members also boosts happiness. Maintaining physical health is equally important for mental well-being. Daily exercise, yoga, or meditation can be beneficial. These small habits reduce stress, increase energy, and keep the mind calm.
