New Delhi, July 23: Political tensions have escalated following a press conference held by Union Health Minister JP Nadda. Leaders from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have responded with strong statements. The opposition has accused the government of suppressing student voices and evading accountability, while the BJP has alleged that the Congress and opposition are trying to exploit student issues for political gain.
RJD MP Sudhakar Singh questioned whether the government would allow movements and political discourse in the country. He expressed concern over the government’s use of force against students who gathered at Jantar Mantar to voice their demands, noting that no apology or resolution has been offered for their grievances. Singh highlighted the government’s failure to take effective action against those involved in paper leak cases, despite multiple incidents and ongoing CBI investigations.
Singh emphasized that the protesting students are not affiliated with any political party but are children from ordinary families, urging the government to engage in dialogue to find solutions. He criticized the opposition’s lack of opportunity to speak in Parliament and the government’s use of force against citizens, drawing parallels to an emergency-like situation. He also pointed out the delay in filing charges against the main accused in the NEET case and made serious allegations against the central government regarding paper leak syndicates.
Congress leader Sukdev Bhagat stated that millions of students have been affected by paper leaks, impacting their futures and leading to repeated examinations. He argued that raising such issues is not political but a matter of youth’s future. Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised these concerns over the past two years, yet the government remains insensitive. Bhagat condemned the use of force against students and the silencing of opposition voices in Parliament.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera questioned why Health Minister JP Nadda was responding to issues related to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during the press conference. He criticized the government’s approach of having different ministers respond instead of holding the Prime Minister accountable. Khera also raised concerns about the use of tear gas and police brutality against students, while expecting the opposition to remain silent.
He further criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA), suggesting it should be established as an independent statutory body rather than being operated as a society.
BJP leader RP Singh argued that serious issues like paper leaks should not be viewed through a political lens. He mentioned that the central government introduced strict laws to curb paper leaks in 2024, which were passed by Parliament. Singh claimed that at that time, Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav did not provide any suggestions on this law, yet they are now politicizing the issue.
