Severe Weather Alert Issued for 10 Districts in Jharkhand: Thunderstorms and High Winds Expected

Ranchi, April 3, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 10 districts across Jharkhand, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain cautious and limit outdoor activities as the weather pattern intensifies due to a shift in wind direction and increased moisture levels in the atmosphere.

Heatwave Alert

Orange Alert for Southern and Central Jharkhand

According to the IMD, the orange alert is in effect for the southern districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, and Seraikela-Kharsawan, as well as the central regions of Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Ramgarh, and Hazaribagh. These areas are expected to experience intense thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds ranging from 40–50 km/h throughout Thursday.

The weather conditions are being driven by the intrusion of moist easterly winds that are causing cloud formation and atmospheric instability over the region.

Yellow Alert for Northwestern and North-Central Zones

A yellow alert has also been issued for Jharkhand’s northwestern and north-central districts, with forecasts predicting thunderstorms and winds at 30–40 km/h. While this alert is less severe, the IMD still advises local residents and travelers to exercise caution.

IMD Scientist Abhishek Anand stated that conditions are expected to improve by April 5, with clearer skies and a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures. “Temperatures are likely to rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius following this brief spell of adverse weather,” he confirmed.

Temperature Updates Across Major Cities

As of Thursday, maximum temperatures across key Jharkhand cities were recorded as follows:

  • Ranchi: 33.2°C

  • Jamshedpur: 37.5°C

  • Daltonganj: 37.4°C

  • Bokaro: 36.2°C

  • Chaibasa: 36.8°C

Weather patterns in the region remain under close observation, and updates will be provided by IMD as new developments arise.
