Udaipur : A leopard was killed on the Udaipur-Nathdwara highway on Wednesday morning after being hit by an unidentified vehicle.
The accident took place near Kailashpuri area of the highway around 3 am. The leopard, a female, was about six years old. Her head was completely crushed, suggesting that she was hit by a heavy vehicle.
Forest department officials reached the spot after being informed about the accident. The leopard’s body was taken to the Chetak veterinary hospital for post-mortem. It was then cremated at the Amberry checkpoint.
This is the second leopard to be killed on the highway in seven days. On January 20, another leopard was killed in a similar accident. In the last 34 days, three leopards and one bear have been killed on the highway.
Forest department officials say that the highway is a major obstacle for wildlife in the area. They have urged the authorities to take measures to reduce the number of accidents involving wildlife on the highway.
