Udaipur: Udaipur and Salumber MP Dr Mannalal Rawat held a meeting with officials to discuss complaints related to environmental pollution, health and drinking water problems in industrial, lake and mining-affected areas of the two districts.
Dr Rawat placed the complaints received from local residents before the concerned departments and directed officials to take immediate steps for their resolution. He said addressing public grievances was the responsibility of the officials concerned.
The meeting was attended by CMHO Salumber Dr Mahendra Parmar, SE PHED Salumber Vimal Prakash Sisodia, Regional Officer of the Rajasthan Pollution Control Board, Udaipur, Vinay Katta, SO Payal Pancholi, SE PHED Udaipur Ravindra Kumar Choudhary, Mining Engineer Udaipur Asif M. Ansari, Deputy CMHO Udaipur Dr Vikram Singh and Hindustan Zinc, Debari, Udaipur AGA Aditya Narayan Thakur.
Water Pollution in Bichhri Area
Dr Rawat informed the officials about complaints from residents of Bichhri village and nearby areas in Udaipur district regarding polluted water coming from borewells.
He said Hindustan Agro Company had shut down several years ago, while groundwater in the area had been affected by the spread of industrial waste from Hindustan Zinc Limited.
The Pollution Control Board will collect borewell water samples from different locations in the area and conduct the necessary tests.
Udaipur Lake Water to Undergo Detailed Testing
The meeting also discussed complaints that the water of Udaisagar Lake is highly polluted and not fit for drinking.
It was decided that PHED and the Pollution Control Board would jointly collect water samples from around 15 to 20 locations in Udaisagar Lake within the next 10 days for a more scientific examination.
The presence of heavy metals such as chromium and nickel in the lake water was also discussed. It was decided that a high-level investigation should be conducted into the pollution of the lake.
For this purpose, PHED and the Pollution Control Board will jointly send a proposal to the Central and state governments for a specialised study by researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
Sewerage Discharge Into Lake to Be Examined
The meeting also discussed pollution in Udaisagar Lake caused by general sewerage as well as sewerage reportedly discharged from a hotel located in the lake area.
It was decided to seek a report from the Udaipur Municipal Corporation on the matter. The Municipal Corporation will also be included in the next meeting.
Report Sought on Silicosis Patients
Deputy CMHO Udaipur was directed to submit a comprehensive report on the status of silicosis patients in the district, including area-wise details and assistance provided so far from the DMF fund, along with details of relevant effective orders.
Officials were also directed to conduct a joint survey by the PHED and Medical Department regarding complaints of contaminated drinking water in Kanpur, Padla, Devpura and Dhawadia villages of Salumber district and submit a detailed report.
