Ranchi, October 20 (Udaipur Kiran): The prime accused in the murder of Chaupati Restaurant owner Vijay Nag, identified as Abhishek Kumar, was injured in a police encounter late Sunday night in the Kanke area of Ranchi. The accused sustained two bullet injuries in his legs and has been admitted to RIMS Hospital for treatment.

According to police, Abhishek had shot and killed restaurant owner Vijay Nag inside his own establishment on Saturday night following a heated argument. After committing the crime, Abhishek fled the scene and was attempting to escape the state with his family.
With mounting public pressure and protests demanding justice for Vijay, the Ranchi Police, led by SSP Rakesh Ranjan, intensified search operations. On Sunday night, police received a tip-off about Abhishek’s movements. Acting on the information, multiple police teams set up checkpoints across Ranchi.
The accused was finally spotted near the ITBP Camp in Kanke. When police tried to intercept him, Abhishek opened fire. In retaliatory action, the police shot him in both legs and took him into custody. He was immediately rushed to RIMS Ranchi for medical treatment.
SSP Rakesh Ranjan confirmed the encounter, stating, “Abhishek was attempting to flee Ranchi with his family when he was intercepted. He opened fire on police personnel, prompting a defensive response. He has sustained injuries and is under treatment. Further interrogation is underway.”
Police have also detained former policeman Harendra Singh and his driver for questioning, as their possible involvement in the incident is being investigated. Preliminary findings suggest the murder stemmed from a dispute over biryani orders, though officials have not ruled out other motives.
This is the fifth police encounter in Ranchi in the past 10 days, in which several accused criminals have been injured.
