Udaipur, May 6, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): A rare snake species was rescued from a residential house in Udaipur by the Wild and Street Animal Rescue Society team amid rising snake rescue calls during the summer season.

Founder Dr. Padam Singh Rathore said the team has been receiving a high number of snake rescue calls these days, with members working round the clock. Acting on information about a snake inside a house at Navratan Complex, the team, including members Prashant and Harshvardhan Singh, reached the spot.
Upon inspection, the snake was found hiding inside the house. After careful observation, it was identified as a Glossy Bellied Racer snake, a rare species. Dr. Rathore said that in the past 29 years, this species has been rescued only twice in Udaipur, both times by his team.
He clarified that the snake is non-venomous and does not pose any threat to humans. Being a racer species, it is known for its fast movement and primarily feeds on small prey such as lizards and rodents. The species is generally found in desert regions of Rajasthan.
Its presence in Udaipur in a natural setting raises the possibility that it may have arrived through transportation or could have been released by a snake charmer.
As per the directions of DFO Ajay Chittora, the snake was handed over to the Forest Department.
Dr. Rathore has appealed to residents that if any wildlife enters their homes, they should inform the rescue team by calling 9414234826 or 9829597722.
