Udaipur, September 4, 2026: An audio recording of a heated phone conversation between Dr Divyani Katara, national spokesperson of the Youth Congress, and Vivek Katara, son of former minister late Khemraj Katara, has surfaced in Udaipur.
In the purported audio, Vivek Katara is heard questioning Divyani about visiting wards in Udaipur Rural Assembly constituency. He allegedly asks her, “In what capacity are you going to the wards?” Divyani responds that she is working in both Udaipur Rural and Udaipur City Assembly constituencies during the election and says that Congress is in her blood.
Vivek Katara has been a Congress candidate from the Udaipur Rural Assembly constituency twice, while his mother, Sajjan Katara, has also served as an MLA from the constituency.
During the conversation, Vivek Katara allegedly says that Udaipur Rural Assembly constituency is his home. Divyani responds that it is her home and birthplace as well. When Vivek says that her home is in Dungarpur, Divyani replies that Udaipur is her birthplace.
The conversation reportedly turns into a heated argument, with Divyani saying that she was warned of organisational action. She maintains that she was working for the organisation itself.
Vivek is also heard allegedly telling her that if she wants to carry out such activities, she should campaign for Ashok Gehlot or work in Gogunda. Divyani questions why Gehlot was being brought into the matter and says she has always respected Vivek.
She further says that Congress is an organisation and that Youth Congress, NSUI, Mahila Congress and the main Congress are all parts of the same organisation. She also says she will continue working for the organisation.
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Divyani Katara alleged that she was questioned about why she was working hard in the Udaipur Rural Assembly constituency and was told that the Katara family had been working there for 40 years and asked what her standing was.
She alleged that she was spoken to in a threatening manner. On the issue of getting a ticket from the Rural Assembly constituency, she said that the decision would be taken by the party’s top leadership.
Divyani said she had always respected Vivek Katara but was hurt by the manner in which he spoke to her during the phone call.
She also said that Udaipur Rural Assembly constituency does not belong to any particular person or family and questioned whether a grassroots worker could be threatened in such a manner and removed from the Congress.
Vivek Katara told Dainik Bhaskar that he had made the call at around 10 pm, and not at 11.15 pm as stated in the report.
He said his intention was to tell Divyani that if she was visiting any area during the election, she should go along with other party workers. He said he asked her why she was going alone, as it could send a wrong message.
According to Vivek, party workers and the block president had raised questions about what was happening, following which he called Divyani.
Vivek said that if Divyani had been given any responsibility by the party in Udaipur Rural, she should carry it out along with people from the organisation.
He said party workers would speak to each other and that he made the call after receiving feedback about the situation.
Vivek maintained that the responsibility for the Udaipur Rural Assembly constituency lies with them and that if there is any issue, the party will ask them about it.
