Alwar, July 23 — A tragic incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Wednesday morning when a truck carrying Kanwariyas came in contact with a high-tension electricity line, leading to the death of two pilgrims and injuries to 30 others. The accident occurred around 7:30 AM near Bichgaon on the Laxmangarh-Mundawar road, triggering chaos and public outrage in the area.
According to police reports, the truck was carrying a group of Kanwariyas, all reportedly from the same village, when it accidentally touched a live high-tension power line. The victims who lost their lives on the spot have been identified as Gopal (22), son of Lalaram, and Suresh Prajapat (40), son of Kajodiram, both residents of Bichgaon village.
The electrocution caused serious burns to multiple passengers. Six victims in critical condition were referred to Alwar district hospital, with three of them reported to be in a highly critical state. Additionally, 21 injured pilgrims were admitted to the Garhi Sawairam Primary Health Centre, while three others received treatment at Laxmangarh hospital.
Public Protest and Road Blockade
The severity of the incident led to panic and anger among local residents. A large crowd gathered at the accident site, and in protest, villagers blocked the Laxmangarh-Mundawar road, demanding accountability.
Protesters held the electricity department responsible, alleging negligence in maintaining power lines in the region. They called for strict action against those at fault, adequate compensation for the families of the deceased, and quality medical care for the injured.
Police and administrative officials reached the spot to control the situation and pacify the agitated crowd. Talks were initiated with the protesters to restore traffic and maintain law and order.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the truck’s height may have breached the safe clearance level under the high-tension wire. However, the focus remains on whether adequate warnings or preventive measures were in place to avoid such accidents.
