Western Disturbance Triggers Widespread Weather Shift; No Heatwave Expected for a Week
Jaipur, May 3 — A fresh western disturbance altered the weather across Rajasthan on Saturday, bringing thunderstorms, light to moderate rainfall, and hailstorms in several cities. Jaipur witnessed strong winds and rain, while Nagaur and Sikar reported hailstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast similar weather patterns to persist over the next four days, providing a temporary reprieve from the scorching heat.

Rain Brings Relief as Temperatures Dip Across the State
Saturday afternoon saw dense clouds and gusty winds up to 50 km/h sweeping across cities including Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, and Vanasthali. Following the showers, temperatures dropped by 2–5°C in these areas. Jaipur recorded 1.2 mm of rain at the airport, with rainfall spanning across Mansarovar, Sanganer, Sodala, and rural peripheries. The city reported a high of 36.8°C and a low of 25.2°C, though both figures showed a slight uptick compared to the previous day.
The IMD has confirmed that no heatwave conditions are expected across the state for the next seven days, thanks to back-to-back western disturbances. From May 5 to 7, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in southwestern Rajasthan, particularly in Barmer, Jalore, and adjacent districts. Heavy rainfall is predicted in some areas on May 6 and 7.
April Ends with Record Temperatures in Rajasthan
Despite a few rainy days earlier in the month, April ended with record-breaking heat. On April 30, Jaisalmer recorded a staggering 46.4°C, marking the highest April temperature ever recorded there. In total, temperatures soared above 43°C to 46°C in cities including Chittorgarh, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Churu, Bikaner, Phalodi, Sriganganagar, and Jodhpur.
The heat was 5–7°C above average in Bikaner, Churu, and Sriganganagar. A brief spell of relief came with western disturbances on April 10–11, bringing hailstorms and rain to cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Alwar, Sikar, and Nagaur.
