Rain Expected in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

Chennai, April 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate rainfall in Chennai on Tuesday, as a low-pressure system persists from Telangana through Tamil Nadu to the Gulf of Mannar. This weather system is expected to bring intermittent rain to various parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next few days.

The department predicts light to moderate rainfall in several areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until Friday. The low-pressure system is likely to cause overcast skies and light rain in some locations, particularly in coastal and interior districts.

Weather conditions are expected to vary across different regions by the weekend. Moderate rainfall is anticipated in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday and Sunday, while light rain may occur in scattered areas of the delta districts.

Moderate rainfall in Chennai and its suburban areas is expected to provide temporary relief from the recent intense heat. However, despite the rain, temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are projected to rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

Recent rainfall has led to a significant drop in temperatures across many parts of the state, although some districts continue to experience extreme heat. Erode recorded the highest temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, followed by Karur Paramathi at 39.4 degrees Celsius. Vellore and Tirupattur also recorded temperatures around 38.3 degrees Celsius, indicating persistent heat in the interior regions.

Meteorologists have advised the public to remain vigilant regarding sudden weather changes, which may include light rain accompanied by strong winds in some areas.

While the rain is expected to provide short-term relief, the overall rising temperature trend suggests that heat will continue to affect most parts of the state.

Authorities are closely monitoring changes in the weather system and urge the public to stay informed through official forecasts, especially in areas prone to sudden rainfall and temperature fluctuations.
