Protests Erupt in Jharkhand Over Cancellation of CGL Exams

Ranchi, August 19: Protests erupted in Jharkhand as employees affected by the cancellation of 22 recruitment exams by the state government demonstrated outside the Jharkhand Secretariat. The decision, which impacts the appointments of 2,628 selected candidates, was made in response to alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations.

Chenna Kumari, a protesting employee, expressed her frustration, stating, “The government’s decision has forced us to take to the streets. Losing a job means more than just losing employment; it affects entire families.”

Chandan Kumar questioned the fairness of the decision, saying, “Those who earned their jobs through hard work should not be punished. This reflects the government’s and the system’s failure. We prepare for exams based on government advertisements and recruitment processes, not on the agency’s reputation.”

Archana highlighted the confusion surrounding the government’s notification, which mentioned evidence found during investigations by the CID and JPSC. “What are these so-called evidences? Are individual candidates to blame? The court had ordered the removal of those found guilty of irregularities, not the cancellation of the entire CGL exam,” she said.

Kashish Kumari added, “We were working in the Secretariat until yesterday, and now we are on the streets. We will seek a stay on the government’s decision from the court. The government should have consulted employees before making such a decision.”

Another protester emphasized the legitimacy of their appointments, stating, “Our appointments were based on the High Court’s decision. How can this be deemed baseless? It feels as if the judiciary is being undermined, as if this decision was made at a roadside stall.”

A fellow protester remarked on the suddenness of the government’s decision, questioning the Chief Minister’s newfound understanding of the situation. “We have worked hard for years, faced challenges, and put in our utmost effort. These jobs were not handed to us as charity,” he asserted.
