Mumbai, August 19: In the realm of Hindi cinema, certain songs evoke vivid memories of a bygone era, and “Roop Tera Mastana” is one such classic. Featured in the film “Aradhana,” this timeless track remains a favorite among audiences. Originally picturized on Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore, the song has an intriguing backstory that many may not be aware of.
Actor and dancer Javed Jaffrey recently shared fascinating anecdotes related to the song’s creation and filming. In an upcoming episode of the dance reality show “India’s Best Dancer Season 5,” Jaffrey reminisced about how the song was initially crafted in a folk style before Kishore Kumar transformed it into a modern classic.
He explained, “Composer S.D. Burman originally designed ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ in a folk style. The initial rendition was quite different from the final version we hear today. Kishore Kumar felt the song could be modernized, and he collaborated with S.D. Burman to revamp its style.”
Jaffrey emphasized the magic of Kishore Kumar’s voice, noting how he could adapt various songs to his unique style, making the revamped version resonate with audiences.
He also mentioned the challenges faced during the shoot, as Sharmila Tagore was quite busy at the time. Remarkably, the entire song was filmed in just one day. “Shooting in such a short time is not easy. Many aspects changed at the last moment, but the team managed to complete the work efficiently, resulting in a memorable piece that people still cherish,” Jaffrey added.
“Roop Tera Mastana,” part of “Aradhana,” not only showcased the chemistry between Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore but also solidified their iconic status in the eyes of the audience.
